Anthropic launches Claude tools for small businesses

Anthropic is moving beyond large enterprises and into the small business market with a new product bundle called Claude for Small Business. The company announced the service on Wednesday, saying it is aimed at customers more like a local hardware store or coffee shop than a Walmart or Starbucks-sized enterprise.

The new offering sits inside Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s business task-automation platform. Claude Cowork can browse the web, manage files and carry out multistep workflows on a user’s behalf, according to the company. Paying users can turn on the small business suite with a new toggle in the product.

⚡ New to this?

This news matters because it shows AI companies are now trying to sell practical tools to smaller businesses, not just big corporations. Claude Cowork is Anthropic’s business automation product, and the new bundle adds functions like bookkeeping and app integrations so AI can help with everyday operations. For non-experts, this is part of the shift from “chatbot demos” to AI that handles real business work.

If you build automations for small business users, focus on integrations, not just chat prompts. Anthropic’s move shows that tools tied to QuickBooks, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign and PayPal are what buyers want, so your agents should connect directly to the systems people already use. Also add clear task boundaries and human approval steps for bookkeeping, payments and contract workflows, since those are now the kinds of jobs vendors are packaging for this market.

Once enabled, the bundle gives users access to automated bookkeeping functions, business insights and generative tools for ad campaigns. Anthropic also said the suite includes integrations with several widely used business products, including QuickBooks, Canva, Docusign, HubSpot and PayPal.

The launch is a sign that Anthropic wants a larger share of the small and midsized business market, where AI adoption has lagged behind big companies. The company said small businesses account for 44% of U.S. GDP and employ nearly half of the private-sector workforce, but that AI tools and training are often not built around how these businesses actually work.

“Tools and training are rarely tailored to the ways small businesses operate, and as a result their use often stops at the chat window,” Anthropic said. The company is pitching Claude for Small Business as a way to move beyond simple chat interactions and into day-to-day business tasks.

The move also shows how the competition among major AI companies is spreading further downmarket. Anthropic is arriving after OpenAI, which launched Enterprise ChatGPT at the end of 2023 and later added ChatGPT Business for smaller teams.

Anthropic plans to push the new offering with a promotional tour across the U.S. The tour starts in Chicago and will visit 10 cities in total, with the company saying it will host free AI training workshops for up to 100 local small business leaders at each stop.

For Anthropic, the bet is that smaller companies are ready for more practical AI tools, not just chat interfaces. The launch of Claude for Small Business is its latest attempt to win those customers over with software that fits into existing business workflows.
